Position

Maintenance Assistant

Introduction

 

A vacancy exists for a Maintenance Assistant based at Life St. Dominic’s Hospital, reporting to Nico Oliphant, Hospital Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will ensure well-maintained and reliable assets through routine inspections and maintenance eliminating equipment faults and quick deterioration of assets associated with Land and Buildings.

 

Critical Outputs

Conduct Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Annual Planned Maintenance on all equipment.

Inspect all hospital spaces/areas daily to identify problems or defects with building, land, furniture, and fixtures.

Respond to ward and general area requests for soft maintenance services, including replacing air filters, installing new locks, troubleshooting smoke detectors, etc.

Repair plumbing, furniture, ironmongery, bathroom fixtures and fittings and safety systems in the wards as required.

Ensure the parking lot and sidewalks are free from any obstructive features that may cause.

Test performance of in-unit appliances, such as toasters, microwaves, stoves, ovens, water hydroboils and coffee machines.

Provide nursing staff with advice and guidance on maintaining their wards and common areas.

Respond to requests from doctor’s rooms, auxiliary services areas and soft services maintenance requests as reported.

Be fully capable of maintaining and repairing fixtures such as air conditioning, carpentry, drywall, small power, flooring, kitchen, bath, roofing, windows, and doors.

Maintain and arrange signage, wall pictures, flowerpots, decorative fixtures, television mounting and road marking.

Complete and return all maintenance job cards to Maintenance Office

Be able to perform after hour standby duties during call outs/emergencies.

Requirements

Matric / Grade 12

N2 qualification in electrical, mechanical/civil engineering (civil, carpentry or plumbing) or Matric with minimum of 3 years’ experience in engineering maintenance or facilities maintenance environment

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Practical experience in hospital environment or similar environment is essential.

Good communication Skills (both verbal and written).

Good Planning and Organizing Skills.
